- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup melted butter in a 9-inch round cake pan. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Arrange the sliced apples over the sugar mixture in an even layer. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Cream together 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy in another bowl.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add the dry ingredients and milk to the wet ingredients alternately, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter evenly over the apples in the cake pan.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a serving plate.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store covered for up to 2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
