Description

A warm and comforting cake featuring tender apples and a glossy caramel layer, perfect for family nights and small gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup melted butter in a 9-inch round cake pan. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Arrange the sliced apples over the sugar mixture in an even layer. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Cream together 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy in another bowl.
  6. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Add the dry ingredients and milk to the wet ingredients alternately, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  8. Pour the batter evenly over the apples in the cake pan.
  9. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a serving plate.
