Description
A moist layer cake featuring sweet grated apples and rich caramel, topped with caramel buttercream frosting.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup grated apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 2 cups caramel buttercream frosting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 9-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar in another large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla and grated apples.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the three prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving platter, spread a layer of caramel buttercream, and drizzle with caramel.
- Repeat with the second layer, then top with the third layer and frost the entire cake with the remaining caramel buttercream.
- Drizzle additional caramel sauce on top and serve.
Notes
Grate the apples finely for better mixing. Do not overmix the batter after adding flour, and check cakes at 25 minutes. Cool cakes well before frosting to avoid melting buttercream.
