Description

Creamy and flavorful, these Cheesy Smashed Potatoes combine butter and cheese with tender smashed potatoes, making them a perfect comfort food for any gathering.


Ingredients

  • 12 medium potatoes
  • 50 grams butter (1.7 oz)
  • 100 grams cheddar cheese (3.5 oz)
  • 80 ml heavy cream (1/3 cup)
  • 1 spring onion (green onion)
  • Sea salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180° C / 355°F.
  2. Wash the potatoes thoroughly.
  3. Place the potatoes in a pot and cover them with cold water, bringing it to a boil.
  4. When boiling, add a pinch of sea salt.
  5. Reduce the heat and let it simmer until the potatoes are tender (10-15 minutes).
  6. Use a small piece of butter in each hole and top with a cooked potato.
  7. Smash each potato flat using the bottom of a small glass.
  8. Top with a knob of butter, a sprinkle of sea salt, shredded cheddar, and a splash of cream.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven until bubbly and golden (about 18-20 minutes).
  10. Let them set for 5 minutes in the pan, then remove carefully.
  11. Top with chopped fresh spring onion and more sea salt, and serve immediately.

Notes

Use uniform-sized potatoes for even cooking. Feel free to mix different types of cheeses for added flavor.
