Description

Soft, tender donuts with a sweet crumb top that taste like coffee cake, perfect for breakfast or as a snack.

  • For the Crumb Topping:
  • 1/4 cup butter (cold and cut into pieces)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • For the Donuts:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 6-mold donut pan and set aside.
  2. Mix together sugar, flour, and cinnamon for the crumb topping in a small bowl. Add butter cubes and work them into the mixture until it resembles coarse meal. Freeze to chill.
  3. Whisk together dry ingredients in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk the wet ingredients.
  4. Fold the wet mixture into the dry mixture gently until just combined.
  5. Fill the prepared donut pan with batter using a spoon or piping bag. Sprinkle with crumb topping.
  6. Bake for about 10-11 minutes until donuts spring back when lightly pressed.
  7. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool further.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally with coffee or tea. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle glaze for extra sweetness.
