Description

A fun twist on a classic breakfast favorite that combines the creamy flavors of crème brûlée with the comforting texture of French toast. Perfect for brunch or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of thick bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar (for caramelizing on top)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  2. Dip the slices of bread into the mixture, allowing them to soak for a few minutes on each side.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Place the soaked bread slices in a buttered baking dish.
  5. Pour any remaining custard mixture over the top of the bread.
  6. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  8. Sprinkle the top with sugar and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a golden crust.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Use day-old bread for better soaking and don’t skip the caramelization step for added crunch. Experiment with flavors by adding cinnamon or nutmeg.
