Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of thick bread (like brioche or challah)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar (for caramelizing on top)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Dip the slices of bread into the mixture, allowing them to soak for a few minutes on each side.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the soaked bread slices in a buttered baking dish.
- Pour any remaining custard mixture over the top of the bread.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Sprinkle the top with sugar and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a golden crust.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Use day-old bread for better soaking and don’t skip the caramelization step for added crunch. Experiment with flavors by adding cinnamon or nutmeg.
