Description

A comforting dish that combines the rich flavors of French onion soup with the heartiness of pasta, creating a delightful and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz pasta (fusilli or rotini recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sugar, cooking until the onions are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and add thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and mix well to combine.
  6. Sprinkle Gruyère cheese over the top and cover the skillet until the cheese melts.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

For extra flavor, mix beef and vegetable broth, or add a splash of white wine after cooking garlic. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
