Description

A soft, simple loaf made with milk for a tender crumb and mild, buttery taste, perfect for beginners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until lukewarm (about 100–110°F) and sprinkle the yeast over it. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool before slicing.

Notes

Ensure the milk is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast. For a softer crust, brush the top with melted butter after baking.
