Description
These soft sour cream sugar cookies are tender, buttery, and topped with a rich cream cheese frosting.

- 1 cup butter (softened)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ cup sour cream
- 3 cups flour
- ½ cup butter (softened)
- 4 oz. cream cheese
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs and vanilla, then mix in baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
- Stir in sour cream.
- Add flour slowly to form a soft dough.
- Chill if you want firmer dough for cutting shapes.
- Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut with cookie cutters and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes or until edges are set but centers are soft.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then move to a rack to cool fully.
- Beat the ½ cup softened butter with 4 oz. cream cheese until smooth.
- Add 3 ½ cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
- Mix until smooth and spreadable. If it is too thick, add a little milk; if too thin, add more powdered sugar.
Notes
Serve cookies at room temperature. They pair well with coffee, tea, or milk. Add sprinkles for a fun touch.
