Description

These soft sour cream sugar cookies are tender, buttery, and topped with a rich cream cheese frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 4 oz. cream cheese
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla, then mix in baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Stir in sour cream.
  4. Add flour slowly to form a soft dough.
  5. Chill if you want firmer dough for cutting shapes.
  6. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut with cookie cutters and place on a lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes or until edges are set but centers are soft.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then move to a rack to cool fully.
  10. Beat the ½ cup softened butter with 4 oz. cream cheese until smooth.
  11. Add 3 ½ cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  12. Mix until smooth and spreadable. If it is too thick, add a little milk; if too thin, add more powdered sugar.

Notes

Serve cookies at room temperature. They pair well with coffee, tea, or milk. Add sprinkles for a fun touch.
