Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 large eggs
- Food coloring (preferably pink and red for decoration)
- Frosting of your choice (buttercream or cream cheese)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one by one, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until smooth.
- If you want to add color, divide the batter into two bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl to create pink and red batter.
- Pour the batters into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake and place the other on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Add sprinkles on top for a festive touch.
Notes
For extra moist cake, be careful not to overmix the batter. You can also experiment with flavors by adding lemon or almond extract instead of vanilla.
