Description

A warm and simple dessert that features a sweet, spiced apple filling encased in a flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Combine sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour in a large bowl.
  3. Line a pie dish with the pie crust and fill it with the apple mixture.
  4. Dot the top with sliced butter.
  5. Cover with a second pie crust, seal the edges, and cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  7. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Use firm apples to hold shape when baked. For a shiny look, brush the top crust with milk or egg wash.
