- 1 cup warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar

- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Optional: cinnamon sugar (for sweet version)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, covered, until doubled in size.

- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin rope. Shape the ropes into heart shapes and place them on the baking sheets.

- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sea salt or cinnamon sugar if desired.
