Description
A delightful staple that brings warmth and comfort with a soft, fluffy loaf perfect for sandwiches or toast.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.
- Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into two loaves. Place in greased bread pans.
- Cover and let rise again until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool on wire racks before slicing.
Notes
Make sure the water is warm but not too hot to keep the yeast active. Kneading well is important for developing gluten.
