- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Pour warm water into a small bowl and sprinkle yeast over it, stirring in sugar until dissolved. Let sit for 5-10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Pour yeast mixture into flour mixture and add melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and divide into 8 portions.
- Roll each portion into an 18-inch rope and shape into a pretzel.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil 10 cups of water with baking soda, drop pretzels in one at a time, cooking for 30 seconds each.
- Transfer pretzels to a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush with egg, and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
