- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and eggs, then mix until a dough forms.
- Knead in the softened butter until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls. Place in a greased baking pan and let rise again for about 30-60 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool before slicing.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract or citrus zest to the dough. Serve with butter or jam, or use for French toast.
