Description
A simple and rewarding no knead bread recipe made in a Dutch oven, resulting in a crispy crust and soft, chewy interior.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ cups warm water
- 3¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp fine grain salt
- 1 packet yeast (approximately 2¼ tsp)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 1.5 cups of warm water, one packet of yeast, and ½ tablespoon of salt. Stir until dissolved.
- Add in 3.25 cups of flour and mix to form a sticky dough. Adjust with more flour or water if needed.
- Cover the bowl with a cloth or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm spot for 2 to 3 hours, until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (about 230°C) and place the Dutch oven (lid on) inside to warm for 20 minutes.
- Once the dough has risen, scrape it out onto floured parchment paper and shape it into a loaf.
- Flip the loaf so the floured side is up and center it on the parchment. Optionally score the top for decoration.
- Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, take off the lid, and transfer the dough still on the parchment into the Dutch oven.
- Cover with the lid and bake for 35 minutes (40 minutes if cold).
- After 35 minutes, remove the lid and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Use warm water to activate the yeast. Experiment with different types of flour for unique flavors.
