No Knead Dutch Oven Bread

Description

A simple and rewarding no knead bread recipe made in a Dutch oven, resulting in a crispy crust and soft, chewy interior.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 3¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp fine grain salt
  • 1 packet yeast (approximately 2¼ tsp)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 1.5 cups of warm water, one packet of yeast, and ½ tablespoon of salt. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Add in 3.25 cups of flour and mix to form a sticky dough. Adjust with more flour or water if needed.
  3. Cover the bowl with a cloth or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm spot for 2 to 3 hours, until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 450°F (about 230°C) and place the Dutch oven (lid on) inside to warm for 20 minutes.
  5. Once the dough has risen, scrape it out onto floured parchment paper and shape it into a loaf.
  6. Flip the loaf so the floured side is up and center it on the parchment. Optionally score the top for decoration.
  7. Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, take off the lid, and transfer the dough still on the parchment into the Dutch oven.
  8. Cover with the lid and bake for 35 minutes (40 minutes if cold).
  9. After 35 minutes, remove the lid and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Use warm water to activate the yeast. Experiment with different types of flour for unique flavors.
