Description

This copycat Outback Steakhouse Bread recipe makes soft, slightly sweet loaves with a hint of molasses and cocoa, perfect for pairing with soups, salads, or steak dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ Cups Warm Water
  • 1 ½ Cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 ½ Cups Bread Flour
  • 1 ½ Tablespoon Dry Yeast
  • ¼ Cup Brown Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Molasses
  • ¼ Cup Honey
  • 3 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • ¼ Cup Canola Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Add brown sugar to the warm water.
  2. Add yeast to the mixture and let it rise for a few minutes.
  3. Add molasses to the yeast mixture.
  4. Pour honey into the mix.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine bread flour and whole wheat flour.
  6. Add cocoa powder to the flour mix.
  7. Top off with salt.
  8. Add olive oil to the bowl.
  9. Mix the ingredients gently and knead.
  10. Allow the dough to rise for at least one hour.
  11. Divide the dough into two equal portions.
  12. Dust the baking tray with cornmeal.
  13. Shape the dough into logs and place them on the tray.
  14. Bake until golden brown and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use warm water (about 105–115°F) to activate yeast. The dough should remain slightly tacky while kneading.
