- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup cream cheese
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, sugar, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla until combined.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle.
- Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
- Roll the dough tightly and cut it into rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- While baking, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla for frosting.
- Once rolls are baked, let cool slightly and spread with cream cheese frosting.
Notes
For extra flavor, add nutmeg to the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for a week.
