Description
A simple, crusty loaf with a crisp crust and soft inside, perfect for daily use or gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 410 grams all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon fine salt
- 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 300 milliliters warm water (38 – 46 °C)
Instructions
- Combine active dry yeast, warm water, and sugar in a mixing bowl. Allow to rest for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add half of the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead on medium-low speed with a dough hook.
- Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough just begins to form and is sticky.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured bowl, cover, and let it rise for 2 hours until doubled in size.
- On a floured surface or parchment, shape into a smooth ball, dust with flour, cover with a bowl, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C with a Dutch oven inside for 20 minutes. Score the top of the dough.
- Place the dough on parchment into the heated Dutch oven and bake covered for 30 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown, or 35 minutes if using a baking sheet.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Use warm water to activate the yeast without killing it. Ensure the dough is slightly sticky. Let the bread cool fully before slicing.
