Description

A simple, crusty loaf with a crisp crust and soft inside, perfect for daily use or gatherings.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 410 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 300 milliliters warm water (3846 °C)

Instructions

  1. Combine active dry yeast, warm water, and sugar in a mixing bowl. Allow to rest for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add half of the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead on medium-low speed with a dough hook.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough just begins to form and is sticky.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured bowl, cover, and let it rise for 2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. On a floured surface or parchment, shape into a smooth ball, dust with flour, cover with a bowl, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 220°C with a Dutch oven inside for 20 minutes. Score the top of the dough.
  7. Place the dough on parchment into the heated Dutch oven and bake covered for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown, or 35 minutes if using a baking sheet.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Use warm water to activate the yeast without killing it. Ensure the dough is slightly sticky. Let the bread cool fully before slicing.
