Description

A classic Rustic French Bread Loaf featuring a crispy crust and soft, chewy interior, perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 410 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 300 milliliters warm water (3846 °C)

Instructions

  1. Combine active dry yeast, warm water, and sugar in a mixing bowl. Allow this mixture to rest for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add half of the flour and salt to the yeast mixture, knead with a dough hook on medium-low speed, gradually adding the remaining flour until sticky dough forms.
  3. Transfer dough to a lightly floured bowl and cover with a towel. Let it rise at room temperature for about 2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Place dough on a floured surface, shape into a ball, dust with flour, and cover with a large inverted bowl. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 220 °C with a Dutch oven inside for 20 minutes. Score the top of the dough and place it on parchment paper into the heated Dutch oven.
  6. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-5 days. Wrap tightly for freezing.
