Description

A simple, old-fashioned loaf with a crunchy crust and soft inside, perfect for soups, salads, and sandwiches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3.25 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp instant yeast (or active dry yeast)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast.
  2. Pour in the warm water and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and a tea towel; let the dough rise for 2 to 3 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Flour your counter, dump the sticky dough onto it, and fold it into a round ball without kneading.
  5. Make a few cuts on top of the loaf.
  6. Place the dough on a floured pizza peel and let it rest while the oven preheats.
  7. Preheat the oven to 450°F with a pizza stone inside for 45 minutes, adding a bowl of water on the bottom rack.
  8. Transfer the loaf onto the pizza stone and bake for 30 to 45 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let the bread cool on a rack before slicing.

Notes

For best texture, warm slices slightly before serving. Store wrapped at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze slices for up to 3 months.
