Description

Soft, fluffy, and warm rolls that evoke memories of school cafeterias. Perfect as a side for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Add the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it is foamy.
  2. Stir in the vegetable oil and salt. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until the dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
  7. Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Brush the tops with melted butter before baking.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the rolls are golden brown.

Notes

Ensure your water is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast. You can add herbs, cheese, or garlic for extra flavor.
