Description

A soft, slightly sweet loaf made with sweetened condensed milk that’s easy to prepare and perfect for various uses.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • ⅓ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 egg yolk (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, condensed milk, egg, and softened butter. Stir until combined, then knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic (or 5-7 minutes with a stand mixer).
  3. First Rise: Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Shape into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan (or divide into 8 equal pieces for buns). Cover and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Apply Egg Wash & Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top of the dough with egg wash (egg yolk + milk). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Cool & Serve: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or mixing in ¼ cup raisins or chopped nuts. Use warm milk (not hot) to activate yeast.
