Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Sprinkles or heart-shaped candies for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing well.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  6. Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. If desired, decorate with sprinkles or heart-shaped candies before serving.

Notes

For softer cookies, don’t bake them too long; take them out when they’re just golden at the edges.
