Description

A classic and elegant dessert perfect for weddings and special occasions, featuring a soft and fluffy texture with creamy frosting.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 5 large egg whites
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 24 tbsp milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg whites one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. For the frosting, beat together butter and powdered sugar, adding milk until you reach your desired consistency.
  10. Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one cake, place the second cake on top, and frost the top and sides. Decorate as desired and serve.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results. You can add food coloring to the frosting for a touch of color.
