- 6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for peaches)
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for batter)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine the sliced peaches with 1 cup of granulated sugar, water, and lemon juice. Stir to coat and let sit for about 10 minutes.
- Melt the butter in a baking dish in the preheated oven.
- Mix together the flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined.
- Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
- Spoon the peach mixture over the batter, including the juice. Do not stir.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Use ripe, fresh peaches for the best flavor.
