Description

Delightful homemade rolls with a rich caramel sauce, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for caramel)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water, and butter until warm (about 110°F). Add the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and egg; mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  4. In another saucepan, melt the unsalted butter for the caramel and mix it with the brown sugar until smooth. Pour this mixture into a greased baking dish.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Sprinkle cinnamon and optional chopped nuts over the dough. Roll it up tightly and cut it into slices.
  6. Place the rolls into the caramel mixture and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
  8. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Best served warm, these rolls are great on their own or with vanilla ice cream.
