Description
Delightful homemade rolls with a rich caramel sauce, perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for caramel)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water, and butter until warm (about 110°F). Add the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and egg; mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- In another saucepan, melt the unsalted butter for the caramel and mix it with the brown sugar until smooth. Pour this mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Sprinkle cinnamon and optional chopped nuts over the dough. Roll it up tightly and cut it into slices.
- Place the rolls into the caramel mixture and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving warm.
