Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, diced

4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)

½ cup milk

1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the dish)

1 tablespoon chopped parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with butter.

Cook the beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until browned. Drain excess fat and season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

Mix the sauce: In a small bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.

Layer the casserole:

Spread half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish.

Add half of the cooked beef mixture.

Pour half of the soup mixture over it.

Repeat the layers, finishing with the remaining sauce.

Cover & bake: Cover tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

Add cheese: Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese evenly on top, and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish & serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired.

Tips & Variations

Add sliced bell peppers or mushrooms between layers for extra flavor.

Swap cheddar for Monterey Jack or mozzarella for a milder, creamier taste.

For extra richness, use cream of celery soup or add a splash of heavy cream.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven for best results.
